Chrome Tip: How To Properly Restart Google Chrome Browser without Losing Any Tabs

There are reasons why you need to restart Chrome to have a fresh start without losing any opening tabs. Maybe one of the tabs you are visiting became unresponsive. Or, the browser occupied too much RAM that needs to be released. You can use the X button to close the browser and reopen it up but you may lose some of the tabs you have opened in a separate Chrome window. You can also kill the browser in the Task Manage if you are on Windows but You could also lose the tabs if you missed the Restart button.

So, what’s the best way to restart Chrome without losing any open tabs

Turns out, Chrome has a restart command that comes right out of the box. Type the following URL in the address bar and press Enter.

about:restart

or,

chrome://restart

chrome-restart

The browser will close out and reopen up with all tabs remaining opened, regardless of how many Chrome window you have opened.

As a bonus tip, you can use the following to properly close the Chrome browser without losing any tabs you are visiting.

chrome://quit/
