How To Export Chrome Saved Passwords to A Plain CSV File

Chrome has a pretty decent and secure password manager built in that you can use as your primary password management system to manage all your online credentials. You can save a password to your Google account profile which gets synced across all your devices. You can also view the password saved for a certain website, but you can’t export them to a file by default.

Here is what you can do to enable this feature to export your saved password to a plain text file.

Enable Password-Import-Export flag

Open Chrome and head over to this specific flag page called Password Import and Export.

Changes you made may not be saved.

Then select Enabled from the drop-down list.

Click Relaunch Now button to relaunch the browser.

How to export/import password list

Now, go to Settings page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Show advanced settings…

Keep scrolling down until you see the Passwords and forms section. Then click Manage passwords…

Now, with the flag “Password import and export” enabled, you will see two new buttons that were there before, called Export and Import.

Click Export button, provide your Windows login credential if you are using Chrome on a Windows computer, you will have a plain Microsoft Excel Comma Separate Value File in a moment.

You can use the Import button to import a password CSV file you exported from another computer if needed.

The exported CSV file contains the following info:

• The name of the entry
• The URL of the website
• Username
• Password

The file is in plain text format that can be opened by any text editor software. It’s recommended that you either delete the file once you imported it or save it in a secure location, preferably being encrypted.
