Gauge for Chrome to Measure the Performance of Your Internet

When you are visiting a website and found it’s slow, do you ever wonder if the page load time is similar to others around the world? Or, if the slowness is due to your WiFi, the website, or the internet speed provided by your ISP?

If you are using Google Chrome as your default browser, you can easily find it out with the help of this extension called Gauge by Dyn. It’s an extension for Chrome users to measure the performance of the Internet between your browser and the websites you visit.

Once you have the extension installed, you will see a new Gauge icon appearing in the upper-right corner of your Chrome browser. Click on it to start navigating the various tabs of analytics information.

My Performance

The My Performance tab reports the average request time of pages in your browser history. You can click the URL from the list for a more detailed breakdown of how much time each part of the request takes.

Geo Performance

The Geo Performance tab reports the geographic location of where websites in your browsing history are loading from and their performance. Click on the various cloud icons to view specific latencies between your browser and the website or cloud provider.

Comparison

It compares a requested website’s latency, page loading time, and first byte to global averages. Pick a site from the recently visited sites drop-down list and toggle the checkbox to filter data on the graph.

The Gauge Chrome extension provides a different but comprehensive set information to help you understand your actual browsing performance as compared to geography and other people. With this information in hand, you will begin to understand the level of performance your Internet Service Provider (ISP), local network and wifi connections are enabling for your internet experience.
