How To Find Out Your Niche Competitors’ Web Stats

Would you like to know how much traffics your competitors websites got in your niche? It would be nice if you could, right? Most of the cases, you wouldn’t even mind paying for it. But hey, before you spend any money, here are a few traffic estimation 3rd party services that you can check out first.

Alexa is always your first stop to go. It reveals the ranking of a website based on a combined measure of unique visitors and PageViews. The rank isn’t based on a site’s traffic alone but is relative to the traffic of all other sites that are monitored by Alexa. The rank is not always accurate but usually is a good start point to find out how popular a website is.

Then head over to Compete as your next stop, to estimate the total US traffic, mostly unique visitors, for almost every website on the web. It gathers the data from ISPs, their own toolbar and other sources to measure the traffic. If you are the paid customer, you can get more date such as PageViews, Duration, Demographics, etc.

Going each place to check the stats seems daunting. There is a pretty awesome extension called WebRank SEO that gives you real-time Website Ranks, traffic graphs, social statistics, website security, pages indexed, and etc., etc.. While you are on a webpage, simply launch the extension and you will get all these data in a nicely organized pop-up.

If the data revealed by these services don’t seem sufficient and you want to know more, here are 2 more that you can check out as well.

First of all, let’s go to Similar Web to find out what it offers. It’s a service that started out as a tool for finding similar sites but now offers a range of data including traffic analysis in a clean interface. Other than the general rankings you see in Alexa, there are many other stats you can find out on Similar Web, such as Visits, Time on Site, PageViews, Bounce Rate, Social stats, Audience Interests, a list of similar sites, and many more. The traffic reports can also be downloaded for future reference.

Then, let’s also check out SEM Rush, another 3rd party service that offers tons of information around organic search traffic for any website. Punch in the url of the website and you will immediately find out how popular the site is in terms of the number of organic search over time. There are a lot of data to analyze too.

While I can’t see how accurate these data is for other websites, I do can tell they are not for the websites I run. However, by analyzing data from these services, you do get a better understanding of the popularity of a website and a clear picture what level of your website is comparing to your niche competitors.
