How To Install and Use An Audio Equalizer on Ubuntu

Having a system-wide audio equalizer improves the overall enjoyment. Since it’s not available out of the box, what is the option on Ubuntu?

Luckily, the out of box sound component, PulseAudio, used on Ubuntu has its own equalizer that you can install and utilize. You will just have to install it through a 3rd party repository. Here is how you can get it installed.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimgard/wedupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-equalizer

Once successfully installed, you can open up the Equalizer by the command line “qpaeq” through Terminal.

Changes you make from here will be automatically saved on your computer.

Frankly, it’s not as sleek as what’s on the Windows system but it’s still functional and makes the songs much more enjoyable with my Sony headset.
