How To Set Google as Default Search in Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge uses Open Search to make more search engines available to users. But to be able to set as default search engine in Microsoft Edge, the search engine needs to support Open Search 1.1. Google doesn’t support that until now as a sign to embrace the new default browser in Windows 10.

Here is how you can set Google as default search engine in Microsoft Edge:

1. Go to Google’s homepage.

2. Click … at the top right corner to open the drop-down menu, and click Settings.

3. Scroll down to the bottom of the Settings sidebar and click View advanced settings button.

4. At “Search in the address bar with” section, click Change search engine.

5. Highlight the search engine, and click Set as default.

That’s it. From now on, you can do the search right in the address bar without the need going to Google’s website.

However, please do keep in mind that some of the search features still use Bing Search popping out while you are typing in the address bar. For example, typing the word “weather” or a simple match formula like “10+12” will result in something like this:
