To promote the Edge browser and urge people to move away from Internet Explorer, Microsoft added a new Tab button in Internet Explorer that lets you quickly open Microsoft Edge.
It sounds like a good idea but if you don’t like this idea, here is how you can disable it.
Click the Gear icon in Internet Explorer and choose Internet Options. Switch to the Advanced tab, check the option “Hide the button (next to the New Tab button) that opens Microsoft Ege” and click OK or Apply to save the change.
Restart Internet Explorer and it’s all set.
If you want to make the same change to all computers in your domain network, doing through Group Policy is a much effective way.
Open Group Policy editor (gpedit.msc) on Domain Controller, go to the following location.
User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Windows Components \ Internet Explorer \ Internet Settings \ Advanced Settings \ Browsing
And enable the policy “Hide the button (next to the New Tab button) that opens Microsoft Ege“.
Restart Internet Explorer to check if the change kicks in.
