How To Remove Microsoft Edge Icon in Internet Explorer on Windows 10

Microsoft Edge is the default web browser on Windows 10 but Microsoft still leaves Internet Explorer 11 live the same time. Since Microsoft is pushing Edge browser to replace the long live Internet Explorer, they added an Edge icon on the toolbar in IE, silently encourage people to switch away.

If you are not ready yet or just simply don’t want the Edge icon to get in your way, here is how you can disable it.

Remove Edge icon in IE via Options

  1. Open Internet Explorer, click the Gear icon and select Internet Options.
  2. Switch to the Advanced tab and,
  3. Check the option “Hide the button that opens Microsoft Edge” under Browsing section, about one-third way down the list.
  4. Click OK to save the change and restart Internet Explorer

Remove Edge icon on IE’s toolbar via Group Policy

If you are on a domain-based large network, you may use Group Policy to roll out the setting that removes the icon to all workstations that run Windows 10.

  1. Open Group Policy editor, press Win+R, type in “gpedit.msc“, and press Enter.
  2. Navigate to User Configurations > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Internet Settings > Advanced Settings > Browsing on the left panel.
  3. Double-click the setting “Hide the button that opens Microsoft Edge” on the right panel, select Enable and save the setting.
