How To Track Who Opens Your Email in Gmail with Doubletick

If you are looking for a way to track the emails you sent from your Gmail account, like getting to know whether your email gets opened by the recipient, here is a pretty simple and free way of doing it.

Doubletick is a Chrome extension that provides a simple way to track your Gmail sent items and adds a double checkmark to any mail that is opened and read by its recipient.

Here is how it works.

Install Doubletick Chrome extension by clicking Add to Chrome button on its website. Once installed, the extension will ask the permission to integrate with your Gmail. Click Sign in with Google icon that shows up on the page.

The Gmail webmail opens up and you are all set.

Now let’s compose and send an email and see how it goes. You will see a default signature “Sent via Doubletick” automatically attached to the bottom of the message, with a blue double-checkmark at the bottom indicating that the tracking is enabled.

Email sent with blue double-checkmark will have a placeholder embedded for tracking purpose. Once the email is opened by the recipient, you will get a desktop notification, if enabled, like below:

As well as a blue double-checkmark suffixed to the email in your Gmail’s Sent Mails folder.

Overall, Doubletick is a quite easy-to-use email tracking service for Gmail. It provides some useful information, however, in my opinion, it’s useful only when used for your own information. If you rely on it so you can use the information to take legal actions, you may look other providers that offer more robotic tracking information.
