How To Use Web-Based Skype Calling on Microsoft Edge

Using web-based Skype Calling on Microsoft Edge requires no extension. You can simply head over to Skype for Web,Outlook.com, Office Online and OneDrive on Microsoft Edge browser and engage in Skype free voice, video, and group video calls by clicking on the Skype icon on the page.

Select the people you want to start the conversation with, and click either Video or Audio button to start the free Video or Audio call within the browser without any extensions.

The process is quite hassle free and runs very smoothly within the Edge browser.

“Skype calls on the web are hassle free,” Microsoft explains, “for the hundreds of millions of you that use Outlook.com every day, to those that visit Skype.com wanting to make a call or anyone preparing a presentation on PowerPoint online; plugin free calling enables quick-fire chat and collaboration, making it easier to get things done together, with anyone, anywhere. No matter where you are, Skype calling on the web is now just a tap away, right there, ready to go.”

For people using Firefox or Chrome, you will still need a plug-in to perform the free Skype calls. Microsoft promised that they will continue to work on enabling audio and video interoperability with these browsers once they both support the H.264 video codec that’s required.

You will be prompted to install a required plug-in when trying to engage a Skype call in Firefox or Chrome.
