Google Docs Tip: Insert a Special Character by Drawing it

There are a number of ways you can insert a special character in a Word document. If you are using Microsoft Word, you can use either Insert Symbol from the Ribbon bar or Alt + ASCII number from the number pad if you know the number for the character.

It’s even nicer if you are using Google Doc as your document editor. You can actually insert the special character you want by drawing it. Here is how:

Open the file in Google Docs, go to Insert → Special Characters from the drop-down menu.

The “Insert special characters” box pops up at the bottom of the document screen. You can search and find the character on the left panel. Or, just draw it out on the small canvas in the right panel. The OCR engine Google put in the Google Docs will smartly start doing its magic and find the character you want as you draw.
